Brookline Travel Basketball is a competitive league for boys (grades 4 - 8) and girls (grades 4 - 8; girls grade 4 added this year as numbers allow) living in / attending school in Brookline. Teams compete against other towns in the Metrowest Basketball League.

Tryouts for the 2020-2021 season will take place on TBD. Players are strongly encouraged to attend both tryout sessions for their grade. Specific days and times by grade have been posted by the Rec Department and are also listed in the attached PDF. A make-up session is scheduled for TBD in Tappan Gym #2. The make-up is intended for players who missed both regular tryout sessions.

Practices will start in TBD and the 12-game regular season schedule will run from TBD through TBD, with games typically on Sundays, followed by playoffs.

Registration for the Travel league is administered by the Town of Brookline Recreation Department. (Click here for Rec Dept registration link. Type "basketball" into Keyword Search).

Travel League Tryout information:

  1. Please pre-register your player on the Rec Department website (click here). The program registration fee for 2020-21 is TBD (paid in advance).  If a player is not placed on a Travel team, the registration fee will be refunded (it will be refunded in part if the player decides to play in the Joel Noe League).

  2. Each grade will have two tryout sessions. Players are strongly encouraged to attend both tryout sessions for the evaluators to get the most complete look at a player's ability. However, we understand that players may have athletic, personal or family conflicts that enable a player to attend only one of the regular tryout sessions. Players will not be penalized for attending just one tryout.

  3. Boys tryouts will be held in Schluntz Gym. Girls tryouts will be held in Tappan Gym. Players should go directly to those gyms.

  4. The BBA will limit the number of teams at each grade level, so there may be cuts depending on the number of players who try out. Players who do not make a Travel team roster will automatically be eligible to play in the Joel Noe Recreation League.

  5. Uniform samples will be available for trying on at check-in. Please arrive a little early to check-in if you need to try on a uniform. If your child played Travel last year, have them try on their uniform before tryouts. If their uniform still fits, there is no need for a new uniform.

  6. There is no fee to try out.

  7. Evaluators will make a substantial effort to ensure the suitable placement of players based on skill level.

  8. Parents will be asked to leave the gym during the tryout session.

  9. Acceptance notification: Players will be notified of team selections as soon as practical after the tryouts.

  10. Financial assistance with the registration fee may be available from the Rec Department. Uniform fees are additional.

  11. Regarding the Girls 4th grade team: Our ability to field teams will depend on the number of girls who attend tryouts. For the past two seasons we have had sufficient players for one 4th grade team and there have been no cuts.
