Brookline Travel Basketball is a competitive league for boys (grades 4 - 8) and girls (grades 4 - 8) living in / attending school in Brookline. Teams compete against other towns in the Metrowest Basketball League.

Tryouts for the 2021-2022 season will take place on Sunday September 26, 2021 and Sunday October 3, 2021. Players are strongly encouraged to attend both tryout sessions for their grade. Specific tryout times by grade are in the attached PDF.

Practices will start in late October/early November and the 12-game regular season schedule will run from early December through late February/early March, with games typically on Sundays, followed by playoffs.

Registration for the Travel league is administered by the Town of Brookline Recreation Department. (Click here for Rec Dept registration link.)

Travel League Tryout information:

  1. Pre-registration is required so that we can anticipate the number of players at tryouts. Registration is live: click here for Rec Dept registration link. The program registration fee for 2021-21 is $175 (paid in advance).  If a player is not placed on a Travel team, the registration fee will be refunded (it will be refunded in part if the player decides to play in the Joel Noe League).

  2. Each grade will have two tryout sessions. Players are strongly encouraged to attend both tryout sessions for the evaluators to get the most complete look at a player's ability. However, we understand that players may have athletic, personal or family conflicts that enable a player to attend only one of the regular tryout sessions.

  3. Boys tryouts will be held in Schluntz Gym. Girls tryouts will be held in Tappan Gym. UNLIKE IN PAST YEARS, ALL PLAYERS SHOULD GO TO SCHLUNTZ FOR CHECK-IN. Then Boys will play in Schluntz and the Girls in Tappan.

  4. The BBA will limit the number of teams at each grade level, so there may be cuts depending on the number of players who try out. Players who do not make a Travel team roster will automatically be eligible to play in the Joel Noe Recreation League.

  5. Uniform samples will be available for trying on at check-in. Please arrive a little early to check-in if you need to try on a uniform. If your child played Travel in the past, have them try on their uniform before tryouts. If their uniform still fits, there is no need for a new uniform.

  6. There is no fee to try out.

  7. Evaluators will make a substantial effort to ensure the suitable placement of players based on skill level.

  8. Parents will be asked to leave the gym during the tryout session.

  9. Acceptance notification: Players will be notified of team selections as soon as practical after the tryouts.

  10. Financial assistance with the registration fee may be available from the Rec Department. Uniform fees are additional.
